JJ, I suspect that we will be restocking ALL the plans later this month - we plan to make one large purchase of every plan in the library to keep the individual cost down.

Ill keep you posted.

Hey, Any chance the plans could be of the electronic type so I can print them on the large format printer I have access to?

Rod can you read DWF files? If so I am sure Lance would provide it instead of a paper copy if you wish. Even if you don't have the software to read DWF files I would be happy to provide the DWF Viewer software This is the only type of electronic file that plans that I draw will be available in. So that you know, this type of file is an AutoDesk protected format that allows viewing and printing only. It can not be altered in in way. The view and print software is free from AutoDesk. I will provide it or you can download it at autodesk.comMichaelP38720.4119097222

I'd also be interested in this format as I too have access to a large plotter. This might be a viable alternative to distributing hard copy. I don't know how the finances work, but it would undoubtedly mean more $$ for OLF as there would be no cost of purchasing the hardcopy plan...
I have Autocad 2002 and Mechanical 6, old I know but works.
Rod you still need the DWF Viwer software to open the file, view and print it. But like I said it is free. In esents the DWF file is a plot file format created in Autocad but is not viewable or editable from any cad program. AutoDesk designed this as a way to provide un-copiable or editable cad documentsMichaelP38720.4943634259

The only issue is for those that dont have acces to a large format printer. Many Kinko's and other copie companies in areas that deal with a lot of manufacturing and archatecural industries, are starting to be able to print from this format now. but you have to check with your local printer, as not all will.MichaelP38720.4916898148

Michael:

I didn't mean that hardcopy should be done away with! Sorry if I implied that. I was just thinking that if the folks creating the plans and the OLF could make a few more $$ by selling electronic versions to those interested, it would be a good thing!

I apologize for the confusion...

-Mark

Oh!! I did not take it that way at all. In fact I think that for those that have acces to large format printer it is a gread way to do it. Both for the Forum and the user.

I'd be interested in an electronic copy and the viewer. While I wouldn't be able to print it, I can at least get started on building the jig until the prints are available. Woud that work?

Michael, sorry I didn't answer your question directly. I can always download and install volo view to print the dwf. We could even create a link on the plans page for the download.

Hang in there folks, Brock and I are working on purchasing a large format printer as we speak. If this thing goes through well have endless supplies of all our plans. Print to order

The one thing about the electronic file is that I can get realy made at the printed copy and burn them if I need to, than when sanity resumes, I can print another set. It sure saves burning the wood which always seems to cost more.

On a similar note, John How mentioned a while ago that he would be making the plans for his jumbo parlor guitar available through the OLF. Anybody know how that effort is going?

John is going to mail me a copy of his hand drawn plans and I will be drawing them on cad. I have not seen them yet but I am sure they will be coming soon.

There is one issue about sending out electronic files that may be a good reason for not making electronic files available, and please understand that I do not think any of our members would but someone could register, buy the plans and disapear. Then distribute the plans via the net, with or with out a profit intent, and the forum would have no reasonable control. Now I realize that someone could do this anyway by scanning the prints into a DXF or PDF document, but this requires a bit more work on their part and would show malisious intent. This may be the reason that the forum would not want to distribute electrinic copies.

It is Lance's call anyway.

Good point, Michael. OK...I'll wait for the paper

Lance, any chance you could have a copy available on Jan. 14 when we meet at Bryan's? I can pay you cash and avoid the shipping time and charges. Sorry for being such a PITA. Blame it on "Mr. Cheesehead" for getting me so excited about his great design
